Instead of, you know, working on my nano today I decided to write first!kiss!fic for Gadget Girl on the request of a nanomemer. Because lord knows, if I have to choose between writing about people dying in hilarious ways or cheesy romance, I'm going to choose the cheesy romance. :D:

This is set in the future, sometime, at Christmas.

NaNo: Not going so well

SO I GUESS that, like, trying to do nano when you're off your meds is really fucking hard dear god. But I'm pushing the hell on through by god.

For now, the Nolanverse fic has been dropped. I'm not comfortable with the characters anymore, I'm not comfortable with the style I started it in, I'm not comfortable with the story, and while it desperately needs to be written, this is all perhaps something that should happen outside of nano.

Just maybe.

So it's been kicked back to the end of the queue, after all the [community profile] 3_ships and [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics that I have to write. Goodbye, Nolanverse fic, I kind of hate you.

The F/F/F urban fantasy, likewise, has been kicked back. I'm not feeling the characters, the relationship, or the plot. I need some time to separate it from what everyone else wants it to be and what I want it to be.

That puts... Gadget Girl up at the front. The one whose planning I've done the least of, the one I'm the least clear of the plot, the one no one really wants to talk about because the other two were more interesting.

But I fucking love the characters, and I love the theme, and I love what I have of plot. So here's to powerin' on through. I'm sure I can hit 12K by the end of today.

150,000, here I come!

Let's talk about Grimsby

Grimsby, in the great (New) England tradition of Woburn (WOO-burn), Billerica (bill-RICK-uh), and Leicester (LESS-ter), is pronounced GRIME-bee. It's located halfway between Worcester (WOO-stah) and the Five Colleges area. It's a bigger city than Lowestoft, closer to a Springfield or a Worcester. Unlike Lowestoft, whose second-largest minority is Portuguese (I believe; I need to check my notes and they are out in my car), the second-largest minority in Grimsby is Vietnamese.

A bit of Grimsby history. )

IDGAF how edgy and trite this is.

I had a brilliant start to this entry in my head and then I went and finished the work I had to do today before writing it down and now I've forgotten it.

Story of my life.

Really, I just want to talk about the world I'm writing in. )

NaNo 2009: My Plan, My Plots

So, this year I've decided to challenge myself. And by "challenge myself" I mean, "I don't feel like choosing between the three plots I have, so I'm just going to try to write them all!" Plus, SK jokingly suggested I do that, and then told me I couldn't do it, and we all know how stubborn I am. And, really, all I have to do to write 150K in November is write 6K a day! I can do that! Sure I can!

SO!

First plot (50K): Nolanverse fic
What if Nolan made a third movie? What if Nolan didn't hate women? Those are the questions I want to answer with this ridiculously long fic that brings redemption to Gotham. It features a cast that ranges from Batman to Harley and Ivy to Barbara Gordon.

If all goes according to plan, I should finish this one on November 9. I'll probably finish sooner because, in retrospect, no way is it going to be 50K.

Second plot (100K): F/F/F urban fantasy
Abby's a PI who does bodyguard work to pay the bills. Red's a mercenary, and Abby's best friend. Sam's an heiress who needs a bodyguard, but doesn't want one. What happens when you throw the three of them together and mix in one part death threats, one part secrets, and two parts assassins?

I'm not sure if I want this one to be more urban fantasy or more paranormal romance, because while I'm delighted with the three of them, I don't think I can squish the entire romantic plot enough to match the length of the action plot.

Regardless, this one should end up finished around the 25th. Again, probably sooner, because really? I pulled that 100K out of my ass. I have no idea how long that is.

Third plot (150K): Gadget Girl and the Dullahan Dilemma
Look, I am too fucking in love with Carrie and Ray and Stacey to just trash the characters because the zombie apocalypse didn't work out. I MEAN HONESTLY. THEY ARE SO LOVELY AND WONDERFUL AND *________*

Anyway. People are dying Final Destination-style in Carrie's city. Turns out, there's a dullahan hanging around, waiting for it to be time for a specific person to die. A specific person who's very dear to Carrie.

To be honest, this one's probably going to end up closer to 100K and the urban fantasy's going to be closer to 75K. But I'm still projecting it to be finished sometime near Christmas. Which is just in time for me to be ready to go back and start editing the fic!

THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY THIS WILL END IN TEARS.
